faq

Am I allowed to bring a television?

Yes, you are more than welcome to bring your own television. If you do, you will also need to buy your own television license. Information on this can be found here. However, you may wish to check that you can receive a valid reception before buying your licence and installing your TV. Large screen TVs are available on the ground floor communal rooms with free to air and Sky TV.

GENERAL

Can I bring a pet?

There is a strict no pets policy at the Village, this includes goldfish and birds. This policy does not apply to the extent that it restricts the keeping of a guide or hearing dog.

GENERAL

Can I choose the people I live with?

Please make any requests to share with friends on your application. We will do our best to accommodate all requests but due to the volume of students, these cannot be guaranteed. The earlier you apply the more likely we will be able to help.

All parties will need to submit an application, including the names and, where possible University ID numbers of the person(s) you wish to share with.

GENERAL

Do I have to pay anything prior to moving in?

We do not charge an administration fee to process your application to live at the Student Village. However, to accept and confirm your room at John Lester, Eddie Colman and Bramall Courts you will be required to pay your first monthly instalment and a damage deposit of £200. Your deposit will be returned in full on departure provided there are no rent arrears, cleaning charges or damage to the property.

FEES & CONTRACT

Does the rent cover utilities and insurance?

Your rent includes all water, gas and electricity bills, so there are no hidden costs. The rent also includes internet access and insurance cover for up to £3500.

FEES & CONTRACT

How can I find out who I am living with?

We can't give you your flatmates' names and personal details (they can do that when you meet them) but you can begin making new friends by joining our official Facebook group, Salford Student Village.

GENERAL

How is the Village experience different to private rental accommodation?

University of Salford Student Village offers an independent living experience in affordable accommodation, just minutes away from classes! At the same time, we ensure support is available 24 hours a day, and offer a fantastic residential life programme to help you live, learn and grow.

This means that you have the freedom to do what you want and can enjoy the benefits of living in an exciting student community. You also have peace of mind knowing that there is always someone available to provide assistance.

In short, we offer a fantastic balance between support and independence!

GENERAL

If I want to bring a car, is it possible to park at the accommodation?

Residents have access to a free car park but spaces are limited. We issue permits on a first come, first served basis and ask residents to provide us with a valid driving license and motor insurance documents.

GENERAL

What happens if I leave the accommodation before the contract has ended?

Contracts are available for 40, 50 or 52 weeks. If you leave early you will still be liable for the full term of the contract. It may be possible to release you from your contract if you are able to find a suitable replacement for your room.

FEES & CONTRACT

What household items do I need to bring with me?

The bedroom will have a single bed, desk, chair, wardrobe and curtains. You will need to bring your own bedding, cooking utensils, plates and cutlery. You can pre-order bedding and kitchen packs, so they are ready for you on arrival. Click here to find out more. You may want to wait until you meet your flatmates as you may be able to buy some items together.

GENERAL

When can I move in?

Accommodation will be available before the start of your course. Details will be provided to you once your offer has been accepted.

GENERAL

Who is responsible for cleaning the rooms and flats?

You will be expected to clean your bedroom and the communal areas of your flat. We would suggest you create a cleaning rota with your flatmates when you arrive.
